In December, President Richard W. Schneider and Dr. Guiyou Huang, senior VP for Academic Affairs, traveled to China on a bridge-building mission. Their aim: to create exchange opportunities for students, faculty, and staff, initiate research projects, and explore the possibility of joint-degree programs with three Chinese institutions of higher education.

The two made Changzhou University, Jiangsu Province, their first destination. Then they boarded a bullet train northbound to Shandong Jianzhu (Architecture) University. Their third and final stop was the Capital University of Economics and Business in Beijing.

Huang planned the seven-day trip based on his extensive contacts in China. “Dr. Huang is highly regarded in China for his scholarship,” Schneider said. “It was an honor to learn of their deep respect for him.”

Opportunities for academic and cultural exchange with China will help further Norwich’s institutional priority of internationalizing the campus.
