Catching Up with NU Clubs From Coast to Coast
It’s hard to keep up with NU Clubs: They are everywhere, doing everything—from cheering on professional hockey teams on the West Coast to placing flags on the graves of veterans on the East. Below is a sampling of recent club activity from California to Florida and Boston to Atlanta. To find an event near you, visit alumni.norwich.edu/clubs.
Brevard County, Florida, Fall Dinner: The NU Club of Brevard County held its fall dinner at Jack Baker’s Lobster Shanty in September. We had a good turnout despite the absence of a few regulars who were in Vermont at NU’s Homecoming. Pictured (l-r), first row: Judy Treml, Penny Gilles, Bruce Barr ’76, and Mary Elin Barr. Second row: Rudy Treml ’62, Bonnie Bleiler, Corine Connors, and Jim Gilles ’69. Third row: George Valhouli ’62, Justin Connors ’91, and Walt Bleiler ’62.
Southern California Takes on the NHL: A great evening with Norwich in Southern California! The group gathered to watch the Anaheim Ducks take on Vancouver as they honored our military members. Pictured (l-r), bottom row: Doug Beliakoff ’79, Rosemary Beliakoff, John King ’11, Keira King, Dennis McGukian ’66. Top row: Anna Joy Hall ’10, Christopher Hall ’09, Jason Abigania ’01, Richard O’Gorman, and Kathy (Zorzy) O’Gorman ’83.
Emerald Coast Club Inaugural Meeting: We had an excellent turnout for the first NU Club of the Emerald Coast (Florida) social gathering. Our most senior alumnus was from the Class of 1963, and the most junior from 2011. We look forward to our next social!
First NU Chapter Forms in Boston: The newly formed NU Chapter of Boston met for its inaugural meeting at the Union Oyster House. The chapter has representation from the Boston, North Shore, Cape Cod, and Central Mass Clubs. They spent the evening networking, catching up, and planning out the year’s events.
Cape Cod Club Remembers Our Veterans: As part of the Norwich Year of Service, the NU Club of Cape Cod participated in a Veterans Day flag placing at Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne. More than 50 alumni, parents, and friends joined legions of volunteers in placing 57,000 American Flags at the Cemetery at the Massachusetts Military Reservation/Joint Base Cape Cod, to recognize our veterans for their service to nation.
Atlanta, Georgia, Cheering Squad: The NU Club of Atlanta had a FAN-tastic time cheering for the Atlanta Gladiators, catching up on Norwich stories, and supporting Military Appreciation Night.
