On April 23, during the annual spring meeting of the Norwich University Board of Trustees, Norwich dedicated the west end of Sabine Field in honor of alumnus Dr. Erasmus Arlington “Arlie” Pond. Athlete, physician, humanitarian, and soldier, Pond attended Norwich for two years, distinguishing himself as a musician and baseball pitcher. After medical school, Pond served in the Philippines as an Army doctor, supporting American troops throughout the insurrection. From 1903 until his death nearly three decades later, Pond remained in the Philippines, working to stop the spread of disease, sharing his love of baseball, and schooling local children.
