In the U.S., someone needs blood every two seconds, and a pint of blood can save three lives. NU’s semiannual blood drive, held in partnership with the American Red Cross, yielded 343 pints of life-saving blood on February 26, achieving its stated goal—of 343 pints. The campus event hosted 308 blood donors, including 82 first-timers. American Red Cross officials said they had to cancel many New England blood drives this winter due to inclement weather. The Red Cross organization that serves Vermont, New Hampshire, and Maine must collect 700 pints daily to maintain an adequate blood supply for hospitals.
